Luxury Vacation Rentals in Costa Rica: How to Pick a Villa

Luxury vacation rentals in Costa Rica from $1,100 to $3,100 a night: how to pick the area, size the villa for your group and know what luxury includes.

Luxury vacation rentals in Costa Rica are private villas with their own pool, a bedroom and bathroom for every couple, and a view, in a few coastal areas: the Central Pacific around Jacó and Los Sueños, the Nicoya Peninsula in Sámara and Nosara, and the Caribbean coast in Puerto Viejo. The private villas we list today run from $1,100 to $3,100 a night for five to seven bedrooms. Choose in three steps: the area that fits your trip, the villa that fits your group, and a short list of what the price should include.

Which area fits your trip

The area decides your days more than the villa does. Each of the places below is a different kind of holiday.

If this is your first trip and you want short drives from the airport, the Central Pacific is the simple choice. If you want a quieter, more remote week, Guanacaste's Nicoya Peninsula is worth the longer trip. For a closer look at one area, our guide to Los Sueños vacation rentals covers the resort in detail.

What a luxury villa costs a night

These are the nightly rates of the private villas we list, as published on each listing. Dividing by bedrooms gives a fair way to compare a big villa with a smaller one.

The spread comes from the view, the design and the location more than from size. A seven-bedroom estate in Playa Hermosa costs less a night than a five-bedroom villa high above Nosara. Rates can change by season and length of stay, so treat these as the listed starting point and confirm your dates before you plan the budget.

How to size the villa for your group

Start from couples and kids, not from total heads. A group of five couples needs five bedrooms with a door that closes and, ideally, five bathrooms. A family reunion with children can use a bunk room, like the one in the six-bedroom Los Sueños villa, and needs fewer en suites.

What luxury should include

"Luxury" is in almost every listing title, so look past the word. A villa earns it with a few things you can check before you book.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a luxury villa in Costa Rica per night?

The private villas we list today run from $1,100 a night for six bedrooms in Los Sueños to $3,100 a night for five bedrooms with ocean views in Nosara. Per bedroom, that is roughly $183 to $620 a night.

Which area is best for a luxury villa rental?

It depends on the trip. Los Sueños suits fishing and golf, Playa Hermosa suits big groups who want Jacó nearby, Nosara suits surf and wellness, Sámara suits families who want calm water, and Puerto Viejo suits groups who want Caribbean culture.

How many people fit in a luxury villa?

Count bedrooms and beds, not the guest total. Our villas range from three bedrooms that sleep 13 in Puerto Viejo to seven bedrooms in Playa Hermosa. Ask for the bed setup in each room before you confirm.
